We were in the search for about 2-3 months. I originally found a local breeder and placed a deposit on a puppy. At the due date, I got an inexplicable email saying there were no puppies and my deposit was returned. I was devastated to restart my search. I used puppyfind.com and contacted our breeder directly. We used phone, text, video conferencing for puppy selection. Screening can be subjective, but I asked a lot of questions, especially concerning health of previous litters and parents. An interesting thing the breeder said about temperament - that a puppy will take on a temperament based on the energy of the people she is living with, in reaction to her people. A dog’s temperament isn’t fixed at birth, but our responsibility as dog owners to train our puppy. With all the emphasis on temperament, I thought this was honest and helpful in our approach to training. Having said that, Twiggy is a very sweet dog. She isn’t nervous, doesn’t go crazy and is even tempered. She loves people and dogs! She will say hello to the biggest dog and is very social when we go to a dog park. While she’s playful, she is content to chill as well.

The breeder answered all my questions over the phone. They are a responsible breeder with a reputable program. The puppies are exposed to ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) and are backed by a one year health guarantee. All puppies came microchipped, dew claws removed, and with a detailed health record with all immunizations up to date. I received weekly texts with photos of the girl pups and had a video conference at 6 weeks to pick out our puppy.

Not the fault of the breeder, but we were hoping to find a local breeder. We had to pay an extra travel fee since the breeder is located in Utah.
